HAPPY NEW YEAR’S EVE!
I just got my annual blogging report for my first year with WordPress. I didn’t even know they do this, but it’s an awesome feature! Actually, I had my grand opening April 11th or so (when HOME sold) so it isn’t indicative of a full year. Not that it matters. If you scroll down to who was the most active commenters here at the ranch you’ll see five names. AJ Nuest, Callie Hutton, Donna Shields, Joelene Coleman and Sarah Grimm.
Folks this is why I ask my guest authors (or non authors, too) to respond to each commenter whenever possible. The total views for these dates were great as well, the invisible visitors, as the commenters were. If you comment they will come! I visit a lot…A LOT… of blogs. Too many really, I’m addicted. 
But if I visit a blog and the blogger hasn’t taken time to reply to the people who spend minutes out of their day to visit, read and leave a comment– if they don’t have time for their commenters, their READERS who’ve made time for them… why should I waste MY time leaving a comment? I’ve even checked the comments BEFORE reading a post. My time is just as important, just as precious to me, as that blogger’s is to them. More so. It’s MY time being wasted! I don’t know about you, but I don’t have enough hours in the day as it is. What makes those bloggers think I have time to waste on someone who could care less if I liked or even read their post or not? Wait–don’t yell at me that maybe I looked when they were at the DDJ (dreaded day job) and haven’t been able to comment yet, that they will be in later to do a catch-up– I don’t look once and make a snap decision. I don’t work a DDJ, but I know many who do. I respect that. I may visit several of that person’s posts, maybe even leave a comment here or there, before I reach that point.
Facts don’t lie people!
Of my own guests who weren’t as active (my guests always do their best I’m proud to say, and if they didn’t, I probably wouldn’t ask them back) those psots had less activity from visitors. But I also know it’s not always on the blgger how well they do. I keep on top of blogs I guest on (or I try to) but even then there are a few that the people just didn’t come. It wasn’t anything I did or didn’t do. It happens. I cheated today and lumped eight comments into one response. I apologized before I did it. So if I feel so strongly about this why did I not do it? I was/am very tired tonight. I got a total of four hours sleep in the last twenty-four hours due to a family emergency that turned out not to be so much of an emergency as it might have been– Thank God. And it’s just eight-thirty on New Years Eve! I am groggy with exhaustion but the kid wants to stay up. She’s six. How can I say no? You’re probably thinking “she won’t make it and you can get to bed before that golden hour” and you’d be right to think that… since you don’t know the kid. lol She’ll probably be awake long after my brain has shut down tonight. But that’s another blog post. I have been commenting to each since that lump catch-up.
Anyway, look at these numbers. Each of these guests spent hard time keeping up with an active viewer/commenter list! For their dedication to fans and possible fans, for drawing readers to MY blog, I’m adding each of their names two times over what they may have into the draw for the free copy of HOME to reward them. For the rest of you– check to make sure you’ve commented on all seven blogs between Dec 26th and Jan 1 to get your name in as many times as possible! This list can be found in the News>Blogging News tab at the top of my site.
And remember–return each comment! Each of those visitors commented to YOU, now it’s your turn to do the same for them. I can (almost) guarantee those folks will be visiting you at other posts you blog because you acknowledged them and their time. You gave a damn and they will almost always reward you for it. You cannot post a blog and expect it to carry itself to satisfaction without your input.
If you care enough to write it in hopes of them reading… care enough when they do read it to let them know you know, and appreciate them for it. This will also brand you as caring and reliable to your fans.
