Excerpts
*Excerpt from chapter three* Mace regarded Kelly with her finger between her lush lips and wanted to take that finger into his mouth and suck on it. Son-of-a… He had to stop this. Already he’d screwed up and failed to protect them. He even had a condom in his wallet. He didn’t know why, he hadn’t needed one until last night. Maybe it was a deep sense of wishful thinking he rarely gave credence to. He mentally kicked himself for the hundredth time that morning and shoved a hand through his hair, knocking his cap to the floor.
Kelly bent when he did to get the hat. Their hands touched and sparks shot up his arm and straight into his chest. He caught her hand and tugged gently. Kelly slipped to the floor in front of him and he pulled her between his knees catching her neck in one hand as his mouth found hers. His hands dug deep into her damp hair, holding her close.
He had to get a grip or this would be one helluva long week. Not unpleasant…just long.
She broke the kiss and leaned away. He let her go. “What are we going to do?”
“I don’t know.”
“I mean about the way I can’t seem to keep my hands off you. How do I stay away when you’re like a new drug I can’t resist.” He’d had no trouble keeping women at arm’s length before Kelly. What made her different? What made her so irresistible for him?
She shook her head and the scent of coconut swirled around him. When had Ben gone to fancy shampoo instead of that boring stuff found in all motels? Maybe it was something she owned that he smelled. “You smell good.”
“Mm. You do, too.”
Mace didn’t argue when she climbed into his lap and searched out his mouth in a hungry kiss that rivaled any feelings she prompted in him. She wasn’t immune to the instant attraction between them, either. Even if she tried to hold back, like he suspected she did.
